Bourgeois Pig is proud to present Lily Piri's new collection of drawings,
paintings and objects entitled, 'Wunderkammer' (Chamber of Miracles). This body of work investigates the
journeys that we take in our lives, the memories that are generated from experience, and the images we
never leave behind.
Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Lilly Piri now resides in Heidelberg, Germany where she draws, paints, sculpts and works
in her garden with her husband Heiko.
At first glance, Piri's images encapsulate the idealized world of innocence, youth and the uninhibited imagination. Although
these aspects of her work are clearly marked by her delicate palette and treatment of landscapes, there is an underlying
wisdom or one might say menacing nature attributed to her characters and compositions. The objects or symbols used to adorn
her subjects are placed together to create a network of meaning that does not seek to limit their content, but to revitalize
the cultural references attributed to them. Piri seeks to awaken our curiosity, and remind the viewer that no matter where we
go, we take our chambers with us.
Lilly Piri has shown in Galleries in Australia, the United States & Germany. Her collection 'Wunderkammer' will be on display at the
Bourgeois Pig Gallery from 13.09. - 11.10.08.
